Where to Place the Try-On Button for the Highest Conversion Lift
Move the virtual try-on entry point to the right moment in the shopper journey and you will see more completions, more add-to-carts and fewer support questions.

Placement is the difference between a feature shoppers never notice and a step that every serious buyer completes. These are the patterns that consistently work across fashion and apparel storefronts.
Meet shoppers where the question appears
Shoppers ask "will this fit me?" the moment they see the product photo — not after scrolling through five review pages. Put the try-on entry point directly beside the gallery and above the fold on mobile.
| Placement | Typical result |
|---|---|
| Beside the product gallery | High completion rate |
| Directly above Add to Cart | Strong lift on higher-priced items |
| Inside the size selector | Good for multi-size apparel |
| Footer or floating bubble only | Highest completion rate, catches attention |
Label the button like a benefit, not a feature
"Try it on" outperforms "AI Try-On" and "Virtual Fitting Room" with new shoppers, because it describes the shopper's goal rather than your technology. Keep the label under three words and pair it with a small icon so it reads instantly at a glance.
Do not interrupt the path to the cart
The widget should open as an overlay, keep the product context behind it, and let the shopper add the exact variant they just tried on without losing their place. Every extra navigation step costs completions.
Treat the try-on result as a decision surface: it should end with a size recommendation and an Add to Cart button, not a share sheet.
Mobile first, desktop confirmed
Most apparel traffic is mobile, so validate the overlay on a small screen before you polish anything else:
- Tap target is at least 44px tall.
- The photo upload works with the rear and front camera.
- Results render in a single scroll without horizontal clipping.
Measure placements, not opinions
Run each placement for at least two weeks on comparable traffic, and compare completion rate, add-to-cart rate and revenue per session. The winner is usually obvious — and it is rarely the spot that looks best in a design mockup.
